Ivy Pull at Lewis & Clark College
Jack Fiocco, one of our Lewis & Clark College’s Student Representatives on the TCWC Board, coordinated a volunteering event for his peers to remove ivy from trees around campus, particularly near the ravine. Despite the cold and windy weather, 10 students joined him on a Saturday afternoon where they focused on tree ivy work. Focusing on English ivy vines that are climbing up trees is important because the vines that reach the canopy go to fruit, and can weigh down the tree, weakening it and making it more susceptible to disease. TCWC’s Coordinator wasn’t able to stay for the duration of the event, but it was great to support self-motivated board efforts to tend the forest areas we are lucky to have near us.
